DO YOU WANT TO BE SHRIMP FARMERS TO BECOME RICH QUICKLY?
Farming of shrimp is a promising job and you can become rich just after few months. Well, do you dare to raise shrimp?
Just looking at this farming costing table, you can see the bigger-size shrimp you raise the more profit you can make. Well, it is quite good to become a farmer!
But in reality, it is not easy like this calculation table, there are many farmers get big debts or bankrupted just after few years raising of shrimp. Of course, some farmers become billionaires if they are lucky and brave enough.
Normally, small farmers don't have good finances to invest for their crops, they have several ponds and they buy in-debt from "distributing agents" for feeds, post larvae, chemicals, probiotics, minerals...to farm first. After that, they sell shrimp and pay the debts back to the distributing agents, and actually the small farmers do not have much profits after paying debts, interest rates...These successful harvests are thanks to God's bless and really so lucky, but if diseases happen or shrimp die suddenly or farmgate selling prices are under farming costs then the small farmers have big losses, even they have to compensate their farming lands to lenders. That's why, the small farmers always harvest shrimp at small sizes like 80 & 100 pcs/kg because they dare not to raise longer! Like this Covid time, many many small farmers got big losses and they can't re-invest for next crop.
For big farmers like companies or who is rich enough that own big lands such as 100 - 150 hectares or more, so they invest their farms very well. They hire workers, set up and build their farms professionally, they either certify farms in compliance with BAP/ASC or not is up to where they sell their shrimp. Thanks to good financial status, so they can buy feeds, post larvae, chemicals, probiotics, minerals...with big volumes and cheaper prices compared with small farmers, they also do not own debts like the small farmers. They often farm shrimp long enough to get biggest sizes like 20, 30, 40 pcs to maximize their profits. Furthermore; the big farmers normally harvest big volumes of shrimp raw materials and they directly sell their shrimp to processing plants so that they have high selling prices, meanwhile; the small farmers have to sell shrimp for "collecting agents" at lower selling prices, then the collecting agents collects from many small farmers to sell to processing plants. Saying so, seemingly big farmers are just advantageous only? Actually NO, big farmers invest a lot for their farms and need many well-trained staffs and technicians to take care the farms, these well-trained people daily monitor ponds closely and stay on-farms to react with any abnormalities . They strictly control bio-security in and out of farms to make sure no pathogens penetrate into the farms, but who can make sure 100% nothing happens! sometimes diseases still erupt or bad weather can destroy their crops suddenly, and if they do not manage their farms logically and economically then they could become debtors or bankrupted as well.
In Viet Nam, people often joke together "if you hate someone, just persuade him or her to raise shrimp"
