SHORTLY UPDATE VIET NAM SHRIMP INDUSTRY IN WEEK 49

1/ General situation

Covid situation in Mekong Delta is still bad, the daily infected cases in Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang and Can Tho are still very high. This is yesterday’s Covid cases in these provinces:

+ Ca Mau: + 722

+ Bac Lieu: + 505

+ Soc Trang: + 617

+ Can Tho: + 689

Shrimp harvesting season almost ended, the farming area in the field is shrinking at the end of the season, causing the price of white leg shrimp to increase significantly in this week. Right now, weather in the South is rather cold, temp is about 20 – 22oC at night time but increasing to 28 – 30oC at daytime. The change of temp is so much, so it is not suitable to stock Pls as the traditional farming models (extensive and integrated mangrove forests & nice fields).

Factories are still facing difficulties and inconvenience caused by Covid’s spreading and confrontation, they are still operating under new normality to process for the pending orders for Asian markets.

2/ Shrimp prices

+ Black tiger: the prices have sharply dropped in this week 48, maybe demand from US, EU and Japan ended, meanwhile; demand from China market is still shrinking much in this year and China/ other Asian markets like Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and local Viet Nam market… are not ready to stock for Chinese new year holiday. The prices of some sizes are trading, 20 pcs/kg ~ 235,000.0 vnd/kg, 40 pcs/kg ~ 170,000.0 vnd/kg, 60 pcs/kg ~ 140,000.0 vnd/kg.

+ Vannamei: the prices of Vannamei continued to increase significantly in this week 48 for sizes 30 – 100 pcs/kg, meanwhile; the prices of biggest sizes (15 to 25 pcs/kg) still downed more.
