Shrimp prices in Mekong delta positively "warm up" thank to loosening the lockdown

SHRIMP PRICES IN MEKONG DELTA POSITIVELY "WARM UP" THANK TO LOOSENING THE LOCKDOWN

In recent days, the shrimp prices in Mekong delta are slightly increasing steadily thank to loosening from Directive 16 (lockdown) to Directive 15 (social distancing) for green zones.

Almost Southern provinces in Mekong delta are dividing their localities into 4 different zones: green (safe), yellow (low risk), orange (high risk) & red (super high risk) according to level of Covid-19 infection to fight against the pandemic and maintain social and business activities.

The difference between now and before Sep 4th is instead of fully locking down whole province itself, now each province will daily evaluate the situation of pandemic of their province according to the levels (green, yellow, orange & red) to flexibly apply Directive 16 or Directive 15. Actually, this creative way was proactively applied by Soc Trang province and proven the good effectiveness in reality, even the pandemic has been heavily affecting to Soc Trang but thank to this way then shrimp processing plants in Soc Trang gained up their operation capacity to 50 - 60% at moment.

With the improved Covid-19 prevention way, shrimp traders are created favorable conditions to move, collect and buy shrimp for farmers amongst the green zones, they (shrimp traders) also easily transport shrimp to processing plants. Workers in the green zones can go back to work in the processing plants but need to make commitment just going from homes to plants and vice versa, the processing plants can mobilize more workers to process now although still less than before the pandemic erupted in last July.

The increasing of shrimp prices is very meaningful at this tough time because farmers are really being exhausted and not eager to stock new crop, there are many farmers leaving their ponds empty or just stocking very less. This (less stocking) is causing a big worry for Viet Nam shrimp industry would face the severe shortage of raw materials in quarter 4!

Farm-gate Vannamei prices are trading in recent days as follows:

25 pcs/kg: 170.000 vnd/kg ( ~ 7.50 usd/kg)
30 pcs/kg: 140.000 vnd/kg ( ~ 6.18 usd/kg)
40 pcs/kg: 122.000 vnd/kg ( ~ 5.38 usd/kg)
50 pcs/kg: 106.000 vnd/kg ( ~ 4.68 usd/kg)
60 pcs/kg: 98.000 vnd/kg ( ~ 4.32 usd/kg)
70 pcs/kg: 93.000 vnd/kg ( ~ 4.10 usd/kg)
80 pcs/kg: 87.000 vnd/kg ( ~ 3.84 usd/kg)
